mYx

Updated: Sep 15, 2020

mYx let out a deep sigh as he looked out of his window and into the vast emptiness that was space. Once in a while, exciting things happened outside, like the occasional space cruise-ship that passed by annually, blasting music loud enough that the entire galaxy could hear. The previous year's space cruise-ship had the best playlist according to mYx, but only because they played his favorite band, The Ghoxmolan 6.

He sighed again, his ten tentacles simultaneously pushing the ten buttons that informed headquarters that Beta Quadrant 6-2-5 was… well? Uneventful.

"Hey, mYx-ple!m--@, how's it going ?" Asked his friend as the hologram of his buddy appeared in front of his face.

You see, to mYx's friends who spoke the lingua franca, mYx went by his full name; mYx-ple!m--@. The real pronunciation was something between a gargle and a high pitch, combined with a telepathic tempo. But to the lesser beings of the galaxies, he went simply by mYx.

"oooh, you know, nothing new," answered mYx, looking more gloom than ever.

"Cheer up, pal! I'm sure they'll reinstate you back at your regular post after this millennia", said his friend in a futile attempt to cheer him up.

"So they said," whimpered mYx, barely looking his friend in the eyes.

"Hey, your shift is almost over, right? I'll swing by your post and take you out to that new gaseous bar near Venus. How does that sound?"

mYx let out another deep sigh. "Sure, sounds great," He said and hung up.

If you are asking yourself how mYx ended up demoted to a post on the outskirts of the Beta Quadrant, you might be familiar with the old story, although you consciously might not know it.

A long time ago, mYx's prestigious job was Manager of the Intergalactic Meteor Watch. His job was simple; intersect and reroute any asteroid that threatens the lives of the lesser planets. Unfortunately, for mYx, as he took an unscheduled bathroom break, an asteroid snuck by his scanner and nearly obliviated life on a little blue planet near the Alpha Centauri system. Until this day, the Dolphins interplanetary Coalition hasn't forgiven mYx for the many death of their distant Earth cousins. And due that their memory is long, it's unlikely they ever will.
